As quickly as it came, so the year leaves so that 2013 may come to take its place. Whenever something concludes, it is natural to reminisce about what was and no longer is: the people you knew, the places you went, the adventures that will live on in your memory through your old age. This was a year of blessings, changes, struggles, and fun. Here are a few highlights, in no particular order:
October found me moving out on my own for the first time in my life. Oh, I'd left my parents' before, but lived with roommates. This is the first time that I have my own place and answer only to myself. While the commute increased from 5 minutes to 40, I feel so free!
This summer, between the days lounging in the sun and working in the office, I was told that my father had had both a stroke and heart attack. While not especially close to my dad, such news is troubling. Fortunately, he lived and my mom fought the doctors about putting him on coumadin, which had caused the death of my grandfather.
After discussing how much we wanted to go to an amusement park, then talking about Magic Mountain, my co-workers and I took a trip to Knott's Berry Farm and Disneyland! While it was a crowded weekend, we managed to hit up all the rides we wanted and enjoyed ourselves immensely.
Working at the same place for 4 years may not seem like much of an accomplishment, but that's pretty huge to me. Even better is the fact that I was promoted to the head of my department! Yep, I'm in charge of all the little people! Ok, we're all friends so I don't really push them around much, but it's nice to be recognized.
All in all, 2012 hasn't been too bad. I'll try to highlight some other things when I get the chance, but those are the biggies.
Looking forward to 2013,
~K

Changes
Changes don't always happen immediately. Sometimes they're so subtle that we don't notice them until long after they've already taken place. One day you just realize with a start how different you are from what you used to be.
That's been happening with me. I don't know if I'm necessarily better or worse than I used to be, but I do see that I'm changed. In some ways I'm meeker than I ever was before, and yet in other ways I'm much more outgoing. There was a time when I told off a guy for asking me out via text (he immediately called me), but now it's the norm.
What things ought to be changed in my life, and which things should stay consistent? I really don't know.
Confused yet again,
